In Greek mythology, Pholus was a wise and civilized centaur, often compared to Chiron, and distinct from his wilder kin. His story serves as a powerful metaphor about the nature of unintended consequences. Pholus opened a jar of sacred wine that belonged to all the centaurs to serve to his friend Hercules. It inadvertently caused chaos, leading to a violent confrontation between Hercules and the other centaurs.

Ultimately, Pholus himself met his end by accidentally pricking himself with a poisoned arrow while he cleaned up the carnage. This myth is a reminder that even the best intentions can lead to unexpected outcomes.
